How DaJa' View Farm got it's name?

Da (Dawn) and Ja (Jake) for DaJa View Farm... Dawn's Mom "Mille" came up with the name and the rest is history...

Dawn & Jake met in high school in 1979 and their story began...dating through high school and college, they married  on September 15th 1984.  No kids except fuzzy, 4 legged ones with 5 kitties and a sweetheart dog named Sadie Mae!

Deep Roots...
Dawn grew up next door  to the current homeplace and her Mom "Millie" still lives there and enjoys all of the crazy farm days from the deck and windows never knowing what silly animal will be grazing near her backyard.

Move to the Farm...
Jake and Dawn moved to "homeplace"  after her Grandmother "Violet Carter" passed away in 1988.  Her Father (Gary Carter) and Grandfather (Thomas Carter) had previously passed away in the 1970's leaving her as the only child and only Grandchild.  Jake and Dawn's goal through the years has always been to honor the roots, sacrifice and business decisions the Carter Family made through the years to create this special place.  They never could have anticipated what would transpire over the past 25 years.

The livestock arrives...
After moving to the home in 1988, Jake bought a few brush goats to eat up pastures and then over time bought a few chickens, and sheep.  The llama and donkey were added to guard the sheep and goats. All this time Dawn was working in residential real estate in North Raleigh and Jake was running his lawn care business "Jake's Lawn Maintenance" and still does to this day.

How did the cabin come to be?
About 12 years ago, friends
Rick & Helen Wadford" told us of a small structure off of Capital Blvd. in Raleigh that was slated to be torn down if not moved.  The little house was moved and postitioned to view the spring fed pond that has been on the farm since before Dawn could remember.  It was perfect for getaways and family fun from Mother's day lunches, Easter family time and Thanksgiving.  The whole family and many friends have enjoyed the cabin for over 10 years without sharing with strangers...

Dawn escapes to the farm...
Dawn left the "wild" real estate world for full time farm life several years ago and had the idea to share the little cabin with the outside world to diversify the farm and have a "stay at home" part-time job.  After trying to find weekend getaways for personal use and seeing there wasn't a lot out there in our area, she placed the cabin on VRBO  "vacation rental by owner" in August of 2011 and the guests started coming.  To everyone's amazement not only from NC, but suprisingly all over the USA and even France! People just seemed to love it!  Over the first 18 months of rental, there were a few requests for elopements and weddings. Dawn didn't feel like she had the "perfect setting" and declined those requests but it planted the seed for the vision of a wedding chapel  in the meadow across from the cabin.

Chapel Vision begins...
With much encouragement from friends and family, the chapel construction began in January, 2013 and
was completed in Spring of 2013...

History of Chapel
The old doors as you enter the Chapel are from a Great Uncle's home "Jimmy" who's house is right up the road from our farm.  The home has been empty for over 20 years so the Contractor took doors, trim and some ceilings to create a Masterpiece from real distressed wood that is aged to perfection.  As folks say, "if the walls could talk.".. I'm sure these walls have seen some amazing family times and now they will get a chance to create even more amazing memories for couple's to begin their lives together here at Daja' View Farm.

Let's Say "I do" or "I do again"!
Jake and I are so excited to say that we can now offer a small elopement venue for folks to affordably get married and honeymoon all in a rustic farm atmosphere where nature abounds!Dawn even decided to get ordained to officiate the ceremonies if a couple doesn't already have a minister!

Our goal is for each guest is to feel the spirit, passion and pride of DaJa' View Farm that the "Carter Family" passed on to us many years ago.  In turn this vision is giving us a chance to share "our slice of heaven" with you!
